Managing A Long Distance Marriage

A lot of couples are in position to have to be apart for long periods of time. It may be due to a business or position or it may be military obligations. Either way it can add extra stress to a marriage that other couples may not face.
An alternative to phones, email and text is participating in a video image on the computer. This is a great way to connect with your spouse as your able to actually see their face while you're talking which feels better than the alternatives. This is a great way to help get throught the time during your separation when everything feels a little harder.
During your communications you don't want to talk or write too much about the separation or missing them, that's not a good thing to key on. Just buy a card and write a note about how much you care, that will communicate to them that you're thinking about them.
Spouses in the military who are left home during assignments have the benefit of support groups. The military has an organized effort to help the left behind partners of soldiers and it's very beneficial for the families to be around others in the same situation. Even if you're not in the military it's a good idea if you have a support group for the time when you're alone, not single people, but other married people who may be in the same situation.
